Another crippling ransomware attack has hit computers around the world

Chernobyl's nuclear plant, India's largest container port, and U.S. hospitals are among the 2,000 organizations hit by new ransomware called NotPetya. Like last month’s WannaCry attack, the malware encrypts files and demands Bitcoin in return for their release (though requests will go unanswered). Like its predecessor, it uses a Windows flaw from the NSA to infiltrate devices, but it spreads via hacked software updates and captured credentials. It's unclear who's behind the attack, though heavy targeting of Ukrainian systems hints that Russia may be involved.
