Dr. Stefan Schauer - Scientist at AIT; Austrian Institute of Technology

Dr. Stefan Schauer

Stefan Schauer studied Computer Science at the University of Klagenfurt and received his PhD in Theoretical Physics form the Technical University of Vienna, analyzing the security of quantum cryptographic protocols. Since 2005, he is working in the Center for Digital Safety & Security at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and is involved in several projects related to the fields of classical security and risk management. Currently, Stefan Schauer focusses on risk management and risk assessment for critical infrastructures as well as the integration of security architectures for such organizations. In this context, he is working on novel risk assessment methodologies and processes applying game theoretic approaches. Further, he is looking into mathematical concepts for the identification and handling of cascading effects within an organization and among critical infrastructures on a national scale.

Stefan Schauer has been coordinating the FP7 project HyRiM dealing with risk management in heterogeneous environments like utility networks. Further, he is working on the running H2020 project SAURON, investigating improved protection for port infrastructures, as well as the Austrian national research projects CERBERUS, GENESIS and others. In the course of his works, he published several scientific articles as well as a Springer edited volume on the integration of risk management and game theory.
